Batik Man is a creative collaboration between Yahya and his family from Gambia and Luqman from Switzerland, blending West African craftsmanship with Swiss design.

Each item in our collection is a unique piece, existing only once. Every garment is individually painted with beewax, partially cracked, and then dyed using local natural Batik colors. These intricate processes are carried out by skilled artisans in West Africa, with designs inspired by both West African traditions and Swiss aesthetics. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our choice of materials: we sometimes use upcycled garments, giving them a new life through our Batik techniques, while other times we work with new, ethically sourced blanks.
Our dyeing process is entirely natural, utilizing traditional Batik colors sourced locally. The fixation process is free from harmful chemicals, relying on natural ingredients like salt, sunlight, lemon juice, and vinegar, followed by a five-minute ironing process to secure the colors. This method not only preserves the environment but also ensures the vibrancy and safety of the clothing. Our garments are 100% machine washable at temperatures ranging from 40 to 90 degrees Celsius. Washing at higher temperatures (90°C) may cause the colors to fade faster, adding a unique, vintage character to the item.
For our creations using new materials, we choose certified organic cotton from the label “Neutral,” which adheres to strict environmental and social standards. While these certifications belong to “Neutral,” we ensure that our production process remains climate-friendly, utilizing renewable energy and maintaining fair working conditions. These new blanks are available in neutral unisex, ladies, and men’s fitted styles, offering versatile and ethically produced options for everyone.
